Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
The mug is built from hand-rolled clay slabs, shaped into a curved form with a comfortable handle attached. The base section is pressed with a repeating floral-petal texture for a tactile grip, then allowed to dry to leather-hard before intricate cat portraits are painted with underglazes. After a bisque firing, the bottom is coated in a blush-pink glaze, while the painted section is covered with a glossy clear glaze to protect the artwork and make the colors pop. A final high firing above 2200°F ensures it’s food-safe, sturdy, and ready for everyday use.
