Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.

My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.

How it’s Made

This mug begins with hand-rolled clay slabs, carefully joined to form the body. The lower section is impressed with a repeating petal-pattern texture, giving it a dimensional, tactile design. After shaping the handle and attaching it securely, the surface is left to dry to the perfect leather-hard stage. Each cat portrait is hand-painted with underglazes, adding layers of detail and personality. The mug is then bisque-fired, glazed with a rich cobalt-blue on the textured base, and finished with a clear glaze over the artwork to make the colors pop. Finally, it’s high-fired to over 2200°F, ensuring it’s durable, food-safe, and ready for daily sipping.
