Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
The mug starts as a slab of clay, hand-shaped into a gently rounded body. The lower section is pressed with a geometric texture pattern, adding both visual and tactile interest. A sturdy handle is pulled and attached, then the mug is dried to leather-hard before intricate cat portraits are hand-painted with underglazes. After bisque firing, the geometric base is coated in deep burgundy glaze, and the top is sealed with a glossy clear glaze to protect and enhance the artwork. A final high firing above 2200°F makes it durable, food-safe, and ready for everyday enjoyment.
