Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
Each Hobbit Door Mug begins with a slab of stoneware clay, hand-shaped into a cozy cylindrical form. The round door is sculpted separately and textured to look like aged wood, while the surrounding “stone” arch is carved and applied with care. The doorknob and tiny bell are hand-formed and attached before the piece is dried slowly to avoid cracks. After a bisque firing, multiple layers of glaze are brushed and wiped to highlight the wood grain and stone details. The final glaze firing at 2300°F gives it strength and richness, ready to hold your favorite brew—and maybe a bit of magic too.
