Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
Hand-built from stoneware clay, the mug’s body is shaped and textured with a geometric pattern at the base. The upper section is sculpted in relief to create the bear emblem, forest scene, and lettering, then hand-painted with underglazes to bring out every detail. After a bisque firing, the base is coated in bright red glaze, the background in soft blue and cream, and the carved elements are highlighted to make the design pop. The mug is high-fired above 2200°F for strength, making it food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher friendly.
