Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
This mug begins as hand-rolled stoneware slabs, shaped into form and given a sturdy handle. The surface is impressed with both leafy and swirling textures, creating two distinct sections. The cat design is hand-painted with underglazes, including tiny red hearts for extra sweetness. After bisque firing, the top is glazed in soft green, the bottom in sunny golden yellow, and the entire piece is coated with a clear glaze to seal and brighten the artwork. A final high firing above 2200°F ensures it’s durable, food-safe, and microwave/dishwasher friendly.
