Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
The tray is hand-built from stoneware clay and shaped into a smooth round form. One half is meticulously carved and painted with fine-line floral designs in black underglaze, while the other half features a hand-painted bird and flower scene using layered underglazes for depth and realism. After bisque firing, a clear glaze is applied over the floral section to preserve the intricate linework, while the illustrated side is coated with a rich, glossy finish. The piece is then high-fired to over 2200°F for durability and food safety.
